A full diagnostic hearing assessment lasts an hour, and it is a clinical appointment rather than a screening. We begin by discussing where your hearing lets you down — the restaurant, the theatre, the phone, the family gathering — because that context determines what the results actually mean for you.
Video otoscopy examines both ear canals and eardrums, with the images on screen as we go. Pure-tone audiometry then maps your thresholds across the frequency range by air conduction, and by bone conduction at the key frequencies, which is how a conductive problem such as wax or middle-ear fluid is distinguished from sensorineural loss. Tympanometry measures eardrum movement and middle-ear pressure — the test that identifies glue ear and eustachian tube dysfunction.
Speech audiometry completes the picture by measuring how clearly you understand words, not just whether you detect tones. Tinnitus is assessed in the same appointment when it is part of your experience. You leave with your audiogram explained figure by figure and written down, with no obligation to buy anything at all.
