Hearing tests
Private hearing tests near Hammersmith
People usually book a hearing test after months of noticing something: the television creeping up, missing what colleagues say in an open-plan office, or struggling on the Piccadilly line platform. The assessment puts numbers to that experience and identifies the cause.
It begins with video otoscopy of both ears, then pure-tone audiometry measuring thresholds by air conduction from 250 Hz to 8 kHz and by bone conduction at the core frequencies. Tympanometry measures how the eardrum and middle ear are functioning, and speech audiometry tests understanding rather than detection — the difference between hearing that someone spoke and knowing what they said.
You will see your audiogram explained point by point, with a written copy to take away and share with your GP if you wish. There is no expectation that a test leads to a purchase.
