Hearing tests

Full diagnostic hearing tests

A hearing test here is a clinical assessment, not a five-minute screen designed to produce a sales conversation. We begin with your history and the specific situations you find difficult, then examine both ears with a video otoscope so you can see the canal and eardrum for yourself.

Pure-tone audiometry maps your thresholds by air conduction across the full range and by bone conduction at the frequencies that matter, which is how a conductive component is identified. Tympanometry then measures eardrum movement and middle-ear pressure — the test that reveals glue ear or eustachian tube dysfunction — and speech audiometry establishes how well you actually understand words.

Everything is explained as we go, and you leave with a written audiogram. There is no cost beyond the £150 assessment fee for discussing what the results mean.

  • Unhurried 60-minute appointment
  • Video otoscopy shown on screen
  • Air and bone conduction thresholds
  • Tympanometry and speech testing
  • Tinnitus assessed where relevant
  • Written results supplied

Initial consultation and full hearing assessment: £150.

Hearing aids

Premium hearing aids, independently chosen

The clinic fits Starkey, Phonak and GN ReSound. That is a curated selection rather than a full catalogue, and it exists because these three lead in different areas: Starkey for invisible fittings, on-device AI and health tracking; Phonak for universal Bluetooth that works with any phone; GN ReSound for the most natural sense of space.

Which is right for you is decided after your assessment, and often after handling the devices. Dexterity, ear canal anatomy, whether you wear glasses or a mask often, and how much you stream all matter as much as the audiogram.

Fittings are verified with real-ear measurement, followed by a 30-day trial. A year of appointments and a five-year extended warranty are included with premium packages, and aftercare continues indefinitely.

  • Independent choice of three leading manufacturers
  • Invisible and rechargeable styles
  • Real-ear verified programming
  • Direct streaming from phone and TV
  • 30-day trial
  • One year of appointments included

Premium pairs: £4,750 (GN ReSound), £5,190 (Starkey), £5,750 (Phonak).

Ear wax removal

Microsuction ear wax removal near Holland Park

Microsuction clears wax using gentle suction under magnification, with the ear observed throughout. Nothing is flushed in, which is why it is the appropriate technique for anyone with a perforation, grommets or a history of ear surgery.

Expect about 30 minutes for both ears, including video otoscopy before and after. The fee is £120 regardless of whether one or both ears need treating.

Occasionally very hard, impacted wax is better softened for a few days with olive oil before a second short visit. If that applies to you we will say so at the appointment rather than persisting uncomfortably.

  • Microsuction under direct vision
  • No water or syringing
  • Before and after otoscopy images
  • Around 30 minutes for both ears
  • Same-day appointments where available
  • Advice on avoiding recurrence

Microsuction, both ears: £120.

Full details of every appointment type are on our services page, and every fee is published on our prices page.

Getting here from Holland Park

Just south of the park

Visit Health at 1 Blythe Road sits in the Brook Green area of W14, a short distance south of Holland Park itself and a few minutes' walk from Kensington Olympia. For many Holland Park residents it is a ten-minute drive down Holland Road or a straightforward bus ride, and the surrounding streets are markedly quieter than the Cromwell Road corridor.

Our second location, the Bupa Cromwell Hospital on Cromwell Road SW5, is reachable in around fifteen minutes by car via Warwick Road, or by tube via Earl's Court. When you book, we will help you choose whichever fits your journey and the appointment type.

The park itself is a useful landmark for orientation: from the southern edge, the route down Holland Road and across Hammersmith Road brings you to Blythe Road within minutes.

  • Tube: Holland Park (Central line) and Kensington Olympia (District & Overground) both serve the area; Olympia is a few minutes' walk from Blythe Road.
  • By car: Roughly 10 minutes to Blythe Road via Holland Road; around 15 minutes to the Cromwell via Warwick Road.
  • Bus: The 9, 27, 28 and 49 run through the Holland Park and Kensington High Street corridor towards Hammersmith and Earl's Court.
  • Landmarks: Blythe Road is a short walk from Olympia London and Brook Green; the Cromwell clinic is opposite the western museum quarter.

Holland Park FAQ

Holland Park patient questions

Where is your nearest clinic to Holland Park?

Visit Health, 1 Blythe Road, London W14 0HG — just south of Holland Park near Brook Green and Kensington Olympia. We also consult at the Bupa Cromwell Hospital on Cromwell Road, SW5 0TU.

How much is a hearing test?

£150 for the full 60-minute private assessment, including video otoscopy, pure-tone and speech audiometry, tympanometry and a full explanation of your audiogram.

How long does ear wax removal take?

Around 30 minutes for both ears including otoscopy before and after. The fee is £120.

Do I need a GP referral?

No — book directly. If anything found warrants a medical opinion, Scott can refer you on to an ENT consultant.

Which hearing aids do you recommend?

We fit Starkey, Phonak and GN ReSound and select between them after assessing you. Each leads in a different area rather than one being best for everybody.

How long is an appointment?

Assessments run a full hour, fittings 60–90 minutes, and reviews 30–45 minutes.

Can hearing loss be treated?

Conductive loss from wax or middle-ear fluid is often reversible. Sensorineural loss is permanent but managed very effectively with hearing aids fitted and verified properly.

Is parking available?

There is metered and residents' parking around Blythe Road and Brook Green, and on-site paid parking at the Bupa Cromwell Hospital. Many Holland Park patients drive to Blythe Road in about ten minutes.

Can I bring a family member?

Please do. A partner or family member often notices things you do not, and having them present when the results are explained helps enormously.

How do I book?

Book online through our Cliniko booking page, call 020 7139 5186, WhatsApp 07510 592 108 or email info@drummondhearing.co.uk.
