Hearing tests
Private hearing tests for Notting Hill
The point of a full assessment is to find out what kind of hearing problem you have, not merely whether you have one. Two people can share the same audiogram and need completely different things, which is why we spend the first part of the hour on history and listening situations.
Video otoscopy examines the ear canal and drum, with the images on screen for you to see. Pure-tone audiometry establishes air and bone conduction thresholds. Tympanometry measures middle-ear pressure and eardrum mobility — often the test that explains a blocked, dull sensation when the audiogram looks reasonable. Speech audiometry then measures word understanding, which correlates far better than tone thresholds with real-world difficulty.
Tinnitus, if you have it, is assessed in the same visit. You will leave with your audiogram explained and written down, and no obligation of any kind.
